The Mem-Non Furniture
A modular furniture collection
PRODUCT DESIGN
THE CHALLENGE: Create the product design extension of an interactive art installation.
THE CONTEXT: After the SenzArt Exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, where MEM-NON has been exhibited, many visitors asked if there was any possibility to take home at least a part of the installation, or if there was any kind of memorabilia of the art piece.
Therefore, the idea of design products came naturally due to the audience’s demand.
THE CONCEPT: Inspired by the Mem-Non Interactive Installation, the homonymous furniture collection is a product design extension of a contemporary art project. The concept is based on the experiment of transforming a complex art experience into a household one, giving it a useful purpose. Mem-Non is a synesthetic installation that combines three sensory channels (seeing, hearing and touching) in a complementary way, having as the basis an algorithm of shapes, colours and sounds.
The Mem-Non Collection aims to translate the esthetic dimension of the installation into an entire furniture family of ottoman, bench, sofa, yoga mat/decorative wall piece.
