THE CHALLENGE: Design the new Bookcity bookstore located in Coresi Mall, Brasov. The end result should express its new brand identity and accommodate a massive array of products while creating a unique environment for its customers.

THE CONTEXT: Book City is an entrepreneurial business, consisting of an online bookstore and a physical one located in the first mall of Brasov City. Having recently renewed its corporate identity, the brand needed to develop all its other touch points in a coherent manner. Therefore, the first bookstore was a natural conceptual extension.

THE CONCEPT: The concept was focused on the idea of recreating urban structures, like buildings, public squares, theatres or street signs. Therefore the main furniture - the book shelves compound - is inspired by a city skyline. Having a very narrow layout, the bookstore required the invention of a space efficient book shelf module, built to exhibit as many books as possible in as little space as it could. Different veneers were used to create a visual puzzle behind the books. Elements were custom designed to fit the concept and to accommodate a multitude of products. The wood veneer complemented the dark grey walls that revealed the skyline.
The kids games area is inspired by the greek amphitheatres, using a versatile structure as a mix of storage, playground and product display. On the other side, the light fixtures are designed as street lanterns or neon signs.
