BRIDE | A Portable Royal Palace
Contemporary Art Exhibition
VISUAL CONCEPT & EXHIBITION COMMUNICATION MATERIALS
THE CHALLENGE: Create the visual concept and exhibition communication materials for BRIDE - A Portable Royal Palace, a contemporary art exhibition, curated by Gloria Vallese at the Medieval Fort in Larnaka, Cyprus.
THE CONTEXT: The exhibition was the last instalment of the itinerary exhibitions dedicated to the Queen of Cyprus - Catherine Corner. The curator wanted to achieve a celebratory conceptual language, by mixing site sensitive installations of various young artists, created ex novo for the exhibition.
THE CONCEPT: The curator gave me a digital copy of an old medal with the embossed profile of the queen Catherine Corner. I decided to translate this historical and poetic representation of the queen into a minimalistic illustration, by tracing the main features of the image.
The idea was to use an old visual item to acquire a contemporary icon, in order to keep the conceptual dialogue of the exhibition between the featured historical theme and the contemporary artistic approach.
